t|e General Counsel Announces Addition of Silicon Valley Partner

Atlanta, GA

(January 4, 2023) – t|e General Counsel, the fractional general counsel practice of Taylor English Duma LLP, announced the addition of Edmund Farrell in Silicon Valley. Farrell joins as a partner and will provide general counsel and strategic business advice for start-up and scale-up, tech-enabled companies.

“Ed’s deep experience with early-stage companies in a variety of industries is a solid fit with our fractional GC practice,” said Allen W. Nelson, co-founder of t|e General Counsel. “We consider him to be a key part of our continued growth, especially as we look to expand our emerging company practice on the west coast.”

Farrell regularly provides legal and business advice to founders, investors, executives, and boards and has served several times as a company’s first general counsel. He provides full-range corporate legal coverage, moving transactions forward while managing risk. His focus areas are finance, acquisitions, healthcare, real estate and construction. He is currently developing a web3 practice for startups and creators, including metaverse real estate, NFT projects and smart contract applications.

Prior to joining t|e General Counsel, Farrell was the general counsel for Avant Stay, a Los Angeles-based luxury short term rental brand and Stay Alfred, a Spokane startup that pioneered the branded urban travel apartment. As Managing Counsel, Global Real Estate for Oracle (NYSE: ORCL), he established and scaled the in-house legal function for global real estate, facilities, and construction. He began his in-house career as Deputy General Counsel with Catholic Health in New York, where he focused on corporate, real estate, finance and healthcare transactions.

Farrell has served as board member for several non-profits, legal and healthcare associations, and a New York hospital. Additionally, he has served as an advisory board member, board liaison, and advisor to the board of a major investment bank association.

“It’s extremely important to us that we continue to find former general counsels like Ed, who believe in our mission to assist emerging companies continue along their desired growth curve,” Nelson added. “We currently have 16 partners located in California, Georgia, Florida, Illinois, Michigan, and North Carolina.”

Farrell received his BA, cum laude, from Duke University and his JD from Duke University School of Law.
